The day or so after December 25 - We all hear mixed reviews about the holidays - some folks love the trimmings and the trees and some folks seem to wallow in “bah-humbug.” If you know someone who seems down-in-the-mouth this season, send up a little prayer for them. You never know what might be troubling that person. They could be far from family, they might have lost a job, or they might have lost someone dear to their heart during this time of year.
That said, my prayers go out to the family of my uncle, Robert Clay Eanes. My mother’s brother was stricken with an undetected brain hemorrhage just before midnight on Christmas day, and by the time he reached the hospital he was close to death. Uncle Bob was put on life support for a little over 24 hours until his family decided to let him go in peace. This man was my mother’s only brother, and his passing leaves a void in many lives.
Bob’s sudden death forced me to recognize all the little things that I’ve neglected lately. Those small gifts that I meant to send as “thank you’s,” those photos I meant to develop for others to share good times, those phone calls that were intended to tell someone how much they meant to me…it’s about time to take care of those issues, and each day in this upcoming new year now presents a new opportunity to relish those precious moments in my life.
