Mason House Inn

Mason House Inn Bed and BreakfastChuck and Joy Hanson invite you to book your quilt retreat in their charming 160-year old Mason House Inn Bed & Breakfast located in historic Bentonsport, Iowa. The Inn was built in 1846 by Mormon craftsmen coming from Nauvoo, Illinois, as a hotel for the steamboat travelers. It is nestled on the banks of the beautiful Des Moines River.

They have 3 large tables in the Dining Room, just right for 6 sewing machines, and plenty of room in the Parlor for ironing boards. Start a new project together, or everyone can bring their own work. Joy is a former Quilting and Sewing teacher at JoAnn Fabrics, so feel free to ask for her help if needed. They can make a lunch, if you wish, so you can keep sewing all day. Or, there are several great restaurants in the local area if you want to take a break.

Price? The regular room rates apply, plus $10 per person. Lunch extra.

One example of the Mason House Inn’s theme bedrooms pictured above: THE GENERAL STORE ROOM is stocked with all the tins of staples you need to set up housekeeping in 1850. There is also a fresh produce and dry goods department. This building used to be Bonaparte’s train station. In the 1960s it was dismantled and brought to Bentonsport and used as a little store. The items in this room are what is left of the store. Private entrance from the porch (with swing) overlooking the river. Return to the Main house in the morning for breakfast.
