Philippa Naylor will take students into Trapunto and Free-Motion Quilting Masterclass on 29 April - 1 May. Quilting possibilities are explored by looking at design sources and a variety of quilts. Philippa shares her own approach to machine quilting designs. Students then create their own quilting design which, after discussion of marking methods, is transferred to fabric. Students begin sewing their wholecloth quilts with the teacher on hand to assist and encourage! This class is for more advanced students who have some experience of free-motion machine quilting. Carol Taylor will teach Sensuous Lines, Curves & Circles on 20-22 September. This workshop will result in two unique quilts, using couching as a main design element. Carol shares the secrets of piecing skinny lines and curves combined with couching yarns for the centerpiece of the first quilt! In the second quilt, students will learn about composition, balancing color, texture and size. She will also teach how to quilt “perfect� concentric circles, couching and how to finish a quilt with facings instead of bindings. REGISTRATION FEE: $300/$270 Friends of MAQS; due date 08/03/07.
Bored with repeated block quilts? Wondering how quilting can make-or break-the artistic effect of your quilt? Then this class is for you! On 4-6 October, Pepper Cory will lead the aspiring quilt designer out of the one-block rut with Two Blocks are Better than One! Learn to design a medallion quilt using two traditional and easy to piece patchwork blocks. Then choose quilting designs that make your quilt design truly special. Ann Fahl will be Telling a Story on 11-13 October. Students will make a unique wall quilt of their own design in this multi-day workshop! Stitch a simple message, idea or story into a quilt, representational or abstract. The quilt will be fabricated on a simple patchwork background. This becomes a foundation for fused fabric, machine appliqué, free-motion embroidery and exploration of thread. Methods of machine quilting will be discussed as well as other embellishment possibilities. Knowledge of basic machine piecing and appliqué skills is necessary. The student must be willing to stretch her/his creative ability. REGISTRATION FEE: $350/$320 Friends of MAQS; due date 8/24/07.

The Museum of the American Quilter’s Society is a non-profit institution located in downtown Paducah, KY. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, year-round, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April-October. The Museum is handicapped accessible.
