2007 Quilt Expo quilt Contest

Now’s the time for quilters to enter their quilts in the 2007 Quilt Expo quilt contest. Last year 245 quilts, created by stitchers form all across the country were part of the competition and exhibit. The 2006 prize-winning quilts may be viewed at wiquiltexpo.com on the Web.

The 10-category juried and judged contest is part of the Quilt Expo held in Madison, Wis., in the exhibition hall at Alliant Energy Center. The three-day event, 13-15 September, and is presented by Wisconsin Public Television and Sewing with Nancy.

The contest awards first-, second- and third-place cash prizes in each of the 10 categories. First-place winner in each category receives $500, second-place $300, and third-place $200, plus one Best of Show winner to be awarded $1,500.

Each winner also receives a ribbon.

Three of ten categories include:

• Hand-quilted bed size: pieced, appliquéd and any other type.
• Machine-quilted bed size: pieced, appliquéd and any other type.
• Wall quilts (machine and hand-quilted): pieced, appliquéd, pictorial and any other type.

The “any other type” category may include wholecloth, signature, rag and so forth.

Quilts must have been made within the last five years and must not have been exhibits at the 2005 or 2006 Quilt Expo.

Quilt Expo also offers a quilt contest for kids, 15 and under. The youth quilt contest is sponsored by Nancy’s Notions and awards gift certificates to the top three quilts.
