Gee’s Bend quilts have been featured in large exhibitions, including two that originated at the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. A showing at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City attracted more than 200,000 viewers. A Los Angeles Times writer won a 2000 Pulitzer Prize for a feature story on Mary Lee Bendolph. Now you can view a sample in the touring show, “Mary Lee Bendolph, Gee’s Bend Quilts, and Beyond,” at The Paine Art Center and Gardens, 1410 Algoma, Blvd., Oshkosh, Wisconsin, through 15 April this year. Mary Lee Bendolph, Gee’s Bend Quilts, and Beyond is co-organized by the Austin Museum of Art and Tinwood Alliance, Atlanta.
