The Horry County Museum, Myrtle Beach South Carolina, offers a Bucksport quilting exhibit through February and a collection of other artifacts. “Senior Center Quilts & the History of Bucksport” is an exhibit celebrating the region’s black quilting traditions with contemporary quilts made by the Bucksport Senior Center Quilters and a collection of Singer sewing machines.
On 24-25 February, the museum will hold its 13th annual Quilt Gala at Ocean Lakes Family Campground. The Horry County Museum hosted the first annual quilt gala in 1994 on the lawn of the old County Courthouse with 40 beautiful quilts waving in the breeze. The event has grown into a two day show hosting almost 200 quilts, quilted items and vendors. The gala is held in the 17,000 sq. ft. Ocean Lakes Family Campground Recreation Center on the Atlantic Ocean in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Visit the site for more information.
