Dedicated quilters - categorized as the serious ones who spend about $2,300 a year on their art - account for 88 percent of the total quilting expenditures. Their percentage may be small - only 4.7 percent of all quilters - but their clout is stout. This market has grown by 34.6 percent in the past three years to $2.89 billion.
I just read a wonderful story about the Quilting in America 2006 survey presented by Quilter’s Newsletter Magazine and International Quilt Market and Festival. According to the Santa Cruz Sentinal (writer Sherida Warner), you may be one of the 6.3 million quilters who have joined the quilting ranks in the past three years. “Your entry into this creative and rewarding endeavor makes you one of more than 27 million fabric lovers in the United States.”
Also, most quilters are women, which is why the MAQS show, “4 Guys Exhibit,” is so unique!
But the survey also said that the primary reasons for visiting specific Web sites are to 1) get free quilt patterns; 2) learn about quilting products; 3) shop for quilting supplies; 4) find block patterns, and; 5) search for fabrics.
Since I offer little in the five reasons to visit a quilt site as shown above, then I really must thank you all for your trips to this site! You’re very groovy! Be sure to visit the Santa Cruz Sentinal for the full story.
