The KHQS (Kentucky Heritage Quilting Society) wants to know if you’ve ever considered entering a quilt into the Kentucky State Fair? There are a number of categories in which you may enter your quilts each year. Maybe you have a quilt already completed, or one in the process that you could enter in 2007!
Categories range from traditional to contemporary - pieced, appliqued, pictorial, and more. The Featured Category for quilts entered in 2006 will be “Scrap Quilts.” Quilts in this category may be appliqued, pieced, or a combination of techniques. They may be hand or machine pieced, but they must be hand quilted. Quilts entered in this category must have a minimum perimeter measurement of three hundred inches.
KHQS has long been a sponsor in the quilts Division at the KY State Fair by providing the $100 cash prize for Best of Show quilt and the $90 in premiums for the Open Technique Quilt category. The latter category supports contemporary art quilters by promoting freedom in both design and in technique as well as the materials used in the quilt. The guidelines for this category include a minimum of 24″ on any side, maximum of 108″ on any side, three layers, hand-, machine-, or hand-and-machine-quilts, no tied quilts, no kit quilts, original design, and embellishment in beads, paint, embroidery, or other technique is allowed and encouraged.
