Quilters throughout the Upper Peninsula are invited to submit their creations to “Fabrications: Art Quilts of the U.P.” opening June 21 in the Upper Gallery at the Bonifas Fine Arts Center in Escanaba, Michigan.
Fabrications will be on display during the showing of the National Quilt Show in the Lower Gallery from June 21 through July 26. The National is an international biennial juried touring show of quilts originating from the Dairy Barn in Athens, Ohio. The accompanying book for the Quilt National 2005 is currently on sale at the Bonifas for $26.50, but a 10 percent discount applies to sales before March 31.
The Fabrications exhibit will accept submissions from May 17 through 22. Notifications will be sent out on May 25.
The First place award of $100 cash and a $50 gift certificate is sponsored by the Fabric Patch of Ironwood. Second prize is $50 cash and a $50 gift certificate from Northern Quilt Products of Cedarville. Third prize is a $50 gift certificate from Tebear Sewing Center and a $30 gift certificate from Quilts ‘n Stuff, both of Escanaba.
Submissions to Fabrications may be digital, slides or actual pieces. Entrants must be 18 or older and resident in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Only original artwork and design may be entered, and pieces must not be the result of a workshop, must not have been displayed at the Bonifas Arts Center and must have been completed in the last five years.
Dimensions may vary, but all pieces must be received for display completed and ready for hanging, including a sleeve or hanging slat.
