Special Hours & Events at National Quilt Museum in April

Paducah, KY- Participate in one of this area’s signature events by visiting the Museum of the American Quilter’s Society! During the week of the 2008 AQS Quilt Show & Contest, the Museum will be open extended hours to allow more time to view breathtaking quilts and meander through the extensive Museum Shop:

  • Sunday, April 20: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Monday, April 21: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 22: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 23: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 24: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Friday, April 25: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 26: 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 27: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

In honor of the American Quilter’s Society Quilt Show and Contest, all Museum visitors will be charged the discounted admission rate of $6 from Wednesday, April 23, to Sunday, April 27. Before and after these dates, the Museum will be open regular hours for April-October: Mon-Sat 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sun 1-5 p.m.

For the third consecutive year, the Museum will be selling Artcards for Acquisitions! Artcards ranging from bright hues to muted tones in a variety of appliqué, embroidery and assorted designs have been created and donated by quilters from all over the world. These 4″ x 6″ cards will be sold in the Museum Shop. Proceeds will go to the Acquisitions Fund to help obtain new quilts for the permanent collection.

The Museum’s Annual Benefit Auctions will be held on Wednesday, April 23; Thursday, April 24; and Friday, April 25. The silent auction will be held from 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Friday in the Newsstand on the 2nd floor of the Executive Inn Convention Center. Different items including fabrics, notions, textile items and quilts will be available each day!

The annual 2008 LIVE AUCTION will be at a NEW TIME on Thursday from 3-5 p.m. in the Executive Inn Show Room with Colorado auctioneer O.J. Pratt. A preview will be held at 2 p.m. There is no admission for attending this exciting event at which beautiful quilts and a wide range of other items are sold to the highest bidder. Donations are being accepted at the Museum until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22.

Exhibitions on schedule at MAQS during the week of AQS Quilt Show and Contest include:

  • New Quilts from an Old Favorite 2008: Sawtooth, March 28 – June 12
    The extraordinary finalists from the MAQS annual contest that challenges quilters to put a new spin on a traditional block. Sponsored by Clover, Fairfield and Janome.
  • Inspirations: Antique Sawtooth Quilts, March 28 – June 12
    Inspirational Sawtooth quilts from the turn of the 20th century
  • Expressions: The Art Quilt, April 12 – July 8
    A juried exhibit curated by Ricky Tims featuring innovative works indicative of the diversity of art quilts and demonstrate the unique methods utilized in the medium of quilting today.

Located at 215 Jefferson Street in historic downtown Paducah, KY–only blocks from the river city’s flood wall murals and antique shops–the Museum of the American Quilter’s Society is the world’s premier quilt museum. The exhibit galleries and Museum Shop are open year-round Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; MAQS is also open April 1 - October 31 on Sundays from 1-5 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and students, and free for children 12 and younger. There is no charge for viewing the lobby’s stained glass windows or for visiting the Museum Shop. The entire facility is ADA compliant.
